Catfish tosser says he was 'dumb redneck with a bad idea'

The Nashville Predators will look to pressure the Penguins exactly like they did in the first game and hope to get an improvement from one of the worst goaltending performances in Stanley Cup Final history.

It remains to be seen whether anyone else gets in to PPG Paints Arena with a concealed catfish.

But they have to be better in the big moments against an explosive Penguins' attack that led the National Hockey League in scoring and has been in these Stanley Cup Final battles before. Malkin's shot sent Rinne to the bench in favor of backup Juuse Saros, who made his playoff debut.

The Pittsburgh Penguins kept Pekka Rinne plenty busy this time. They began backing the team, and were dubbed the "Predwings".

The floodgates are open in Pittsburgh.

The Pens took a 3-0 lead, only to see the Preds tie the score 3-3 in the third period. That chased goaltender Pekka Rinne.

The barrage started with Jake Guentzel. All three goals in the third period, we could have done something better.

Chased after allowing four goals on 25 shots faced, Rinne unraveled when the Predators simply needed him to keep the score close.

Since then, he has a 9.43 save percentage and a 1.54 goals against average.

The Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department and CDE Lightband will stream the game to a huge screen on the First Street side of City Hall.

"Our focus is Game 3 and going home to a crowd that's going to be electric", Predators' captain Mike Fisher said.

Nashville's forecheck in Game 1 was very predictable. Guentzel has the second-most goals ever for a rookie in one post-season and set a new rookie record with his fifth game-winning goal. Pittsburgh can't keep relying on insane bounces and 5-on-3 power plays to get their goals. He has found his touch at the right time for Pittsburgh, which leads the Final 1-0.

Cullen, who is 40, and the Penguins are going for back-to-back-championships. That's a big reason why Nashville has 53 shot attempts to Pittsburgh's 31.

Guentzel struck again 10 seconds into the third period to put Pittsburgh in front for good. He was helped off the ice by teammates, unable to put weight on the injured body part.

So what does all of that mean strategically for Game 2? The Penguins threw Craig Adams' corpse on the ice for years and are now doing it with Ron Hainsey. Just try to be harder and stiffer to play against on puck battles. Analyzing Game 1 specifically is more hard.

It's Aberg's second goal of the playoffs. Defenseman P.K. Subban pointed to the response after falling behind by three as proof the stage is not too big.

Game 1 was not without its controversy. Penguins coach Mike Sullivan has deliberately cut Guentzel's ice time, citing fatigue factors.

Sullivan promoted Bryan Rust to play on the first line with Conor Sheary and Sidney Crosby. Yet there was Malkin, free to choose between the top corner and Phil Kessel on the backdoor, choosing wisely.

Rinne fell to 0-5-0 in five career starts in Pittsburgh and he has never beaten the Penguins anywhere as a starter. They were mathematically out-shot, largely outplayed, and unquestionably stand halfway toward claiming back-to-back Stanley Cup titles.

He added fans here aren't just catfishing or jumping on the bandwagon, either.

The Nolensville resident, who was ejected from the game after flinging the catfish onto the ice, was facing several minor charges.

He said at his store, Predators gear sells quickly. Of those teams, 90 percent went on to win the Stanley Cup, including Pittsburgh last season.

Hockey has a long tradition of objects being thrown on the ice, usually in affection like when fans toss hats to mark hat tricks.
