His postgame interviews have become performance art in this series, but what he has not provided is a way forward for the Cavs as they return home, facing a 2-0 deficit in the best-of-seven NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.
It looks like the Golden State Warriors are on their way to proving this old sports adage after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers, 132-113, to take a 2-0 series advantage on Monday at the Oracle Arena. The interest in championship series usually increase if they are evenly-matched, so if the Cavs can take a few games ABC would be in great shape. Before Game 3, place the box outside the Warriors' hotel with a folding chair inside.
But after being so close past year and falling short, the Warriors know how hard the next two will be. That's what makes it so much fun, to feel the energy of the finals. One of the issues that he's been forced to deal with has been a concerted effort on the part of the Warriors to limit his effectiveness, a factor that's definitely gotten his attention.
Cavs guard Kyrie Irving, who had 19 points in game two, needs one of his best games to help counteract the Warriors' production. They've blown the doors off of LeBron James and company in both games in the third quarters, outscoring the Cavs by 13 points in Game 1 and 11 on Sunday. "I hope and pray that they make a decision that's best for them, and nobody else". "I can't blame them", he said. "Much more physical today than we were in Game 1".
Right now, everything is on the table, whether that's changes to the starting lineup or even changes to the rotations.
But a move like that comes with a risk.
"We're most focused on what happened previous year in terms of being up 2-0 and we came here (to Cleveland) and the series shifted".
While taking questions, LeBron remained amicable after the loss, save for one response to a reporter that asked "LeBron, do you just feel this is a case where you just have to defend home court at this point?" I can get my guys ready, get myself ready.
Finding Kyrie Irving better scoring opportunities and getting more production from Cleveland's non-Big Three is also necessary. And they make no apologies for it.
But this isn't all in a bubble of what Cleveland isn't doing. The Warriors followed with a 16-4 run that included 3-pointers from Curry and Thompson, a three-point play from Durant in transition and four points from Shaun Livingston. "It's too fresh. We're going to go home and watch the film to see ways we can be better".
But we know what happened next: the Warriors limped through the Western Conference Playoffs, narrowly escaping the Oklahoma City Thunder, before blowing a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals.
Now, Golden State is headed to Northeast Ohio needing just two more - yet don't count on anybody considering this series close to done. You can see the frustration in Cleveland's body language. "They're playing for a title".
"We played against good teams, and we came to the Finals undefeated, and here we are up 2-0, so we're playing fantastic basketball right now".
