Further salary leaks include Eastenders stars Danny Dyer and Adam Woodyatt, who reportedly earn £200,000 to £250,000 each, are paid more than multi award-winning actress Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey. Two thirds of the 96 top paid stars are male.
In a statement to launch the BBC's annual report, Lord Hall promised that the broadcaster's commitments to gender parity and ethnic "diversity" will change the media market, declaring: "We have set the most stretching targets in the industry for on-air diversity and we've made progress". This is two bands higher than her co-host Tess Daly, who takes home between £350,000 and £400,000, although Winkleman does have a Radio 2 show.
Legal professionals have already suggested that female presenters may find themselves with grounds for a sex discrimination or equal pay claim if they can show they do similar work.
Hall also said that nearly two-thirds of new appointments and promotions within TV and radio departments over the past three years had been women.
He has also promised that by 2020 all the leading and presenting roles will be equally divided between men and women.

News anchor Huw Edwards, meanwhile, earns at least 40% more than counterpart Fiona Bruce is on less than 400,000 (the average gender pay gap for full-time workers in the U.K.is 9.4%).
"No-one would want us to be paying sums where it's not at a discount on the market".
A BBC source insisted that female talent had not been given last minute pay hikes in a bid to increase their numbers on the top salary list.
He argued that the BBC had reduced talent salaries by 25% in the past four years and said publishing the list was a "bad idea" because it could tempt other companies to poach talent.
For the first time in its history, the BBC have revealed the amount of money that their on-screen talent are earning.
