Chargers open 2017 National Football League season against Broncos -- but do San Diegans care?

Chargers open 2017 National Football League season against Broncos -- but do San Diegans care?

Both teams are looking for successful seasons so they can make their way back to the playoffs.

Garett Bolles, the Broncos' first-round draft pick, made his debut alongside free-agent acquisitions Ron Leary and Menelik Watson on the offensive line, a group general manager John Elway prioritized in upgrading during the offseason. Only then will football TRULY be back.

Bradford looked more like Drew Brees in the pocket, leading the Vikings on a three-play, 74-yard touchdown drive and 10-play 95-yard touchdown drive late in the second quarter to give the Vikings a 16-6 half-time lead. Barring a late collapse, the Bolts take this one easier than most think. Every week is going to be a challenge, so a win's a win.

It is entirely possible that Joe Woods' defensive unit is good.

"This is why you play the game", Joseph said.

Mike Murray: "For me this all hinges on the play of the Chargers offensive line".

It is no secret that Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian isn't John Elway but he's still a serviceable quarterback when he has time.

The two games will be played one night following the death of Don Ohlmeyer, who was one of the original producers of "Monday Night Football". "Chargers 35 - Broncos 33".

FAST FACTS: Chargers TE Antonio Gates, who is tied with Tony Gonzalez with 111 touchdown receptions, needs one more catch in the end zone to break the all-time record for most touchdowns by a tight end.

"It wasn't clean, but it's good to win", Joseph said.

Down 24-7 heading into the fourth quarter, the Chargers used back-to-back turnovers to work their way back into the game. "However, it won't be enough to make the loss any less embarrassing". But the Chargers, man, were just woeful on offense for a lot of this game.

Melvin Gordon saw the crease as two of his offensive lineman teamed up to pin down Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe.

Broncos pass-rushing linebacker Von Miller said the Chargers have bolstered the talent surrounding Rivers, making their offense much tougher to reckon with.

Monday night's Broncos-Chargers game featured a familiar AFC West rivalry with some unfamiliar twists. "We had a nice dinner, and he was telling me how great the city is, how great the fans are".

Four plays later, they punted. "Chargers come away with a win in Denver for the first time since December 2013". I need one.' But one isn't the destination for me.

Really, the Broncos were five of seven in the half, as their eighth third-down attempt came on third-and-18 with 38 seconds remaining in the second quarter and the Chargers out of timeouts. It will all be live-and-learn stuff moving forward, and there were some concerns in that revamped offensive line late in the game as the Broncos were nearly unable to close the deal.
